Read

Reading is something that J-Mom and I have tried to instill in both Diva-J and now Diva-PJ. Having a love for reading promotes imagination and can allow for your child to reach heights that they never could without the opportunity of being literate. They say that as little as 20 minutes a day will do wonders at the intellectual and academic ability that your child will have when they start school. We have found this to be true with our own daughters and expect that this will only continue.

The only challenge with promoting reading, you will get a lot more questions of “Why does…” and “How does…” These are of little worry though when you see the excitement in a child’s eyes for a new story or a long loved story being read to them.

It is also very important to emulate what you are trying to instill in your children. Let your kids see you read. Let your kids see that you will turn off the television to pick up a great book and get immersed in the prose. Too often children come to find that their parents pay only mere lip service to the idea of reading and do not read themselves. So pick up a book today and start expanding your own mind to the possibilities that exist.

In researching this post I came up with a number of resources that I wanted to share with you all:

Today’s task is for you read the information listed within the above three sites and to spend at least 20 minutes today reading with your child. Also, start a new book yourself and take some time to experience the joy of reading for yourself. Once you do this, come back here and let us all know what you did and how it made you feel.

I am interested to know where you find inner child disappearing and what you have done in the past or what you plan to do to find this inner child again. If you are so inclined please leave your responses in a comment below or link to a blog post if you are going to commit to joining me on this journey so that others can learn from you as well.

Good luck with day 8 and I look forward to your thoughts and comments!
