Art and Craftspic Ever since my oldest daughter went to the planetarium, both of my daughters have a desire to learn about the solar system. My daughters love when I read them books about the universe. We have been to our local planetarium twice in the past year. They even like to watch DVD’s from the History Channel’s “Universe” series. For me it is great since they are learning about something that is educational. I am excited to see their passion for science at an early age.

We will even look out at night for certain planets that are visible in the sky. There have been many trips to our library to pick out books about the solar system. I thought it might be a phase, but to this day they still enjoy learning about our universe.

One day I got a decent size box delivered to my house. After I opened the box, my daughters wanted to play inside the cardboard container. They were both able to fit inside and it looked like they were ready to blast off into space.

When I asked them if they wanted to help me make a spaceship they cheered with excitement. We got some supplies out of our craft bins and started making the ship. Here is what you need to make a spaceship.

Supplies:

One big cardboard box that is able to fit at least two kids into the ship at one time. (Trust me on this!)

A safety cutter or a pair of scissors

Markers or crayons

Tape/glue (I recommend the packaging tape or duct tape)

Space stickers to add to flare to your ship

Directions:

Cut the top off the box and keep them for spare parts. Reinforce the bottom of the box with tape since your kids will probably be rough with the spaceship. With the spare parts create wings and other pieces of the ship. Tape or glue each piece to the craft the way you and your kids will want the ship to look.

Once all the pieces have been used up, you and your kids can use your imagination to decorate the ship. Have them design the spacecraft with markers and crayons. Once the ship decorations are complete you are free to go to where you and your kid’s imagination takes you. And if you want to take your crafting skills to the next level, you should consider getting a vinyl cutter as this can help you create virtually any shape, letter or symbol you want for application just about anywhere. Happy exploring!
