Art and Craftspic This week on the Life of Dad segment, Art and Crafts, we made butterfly magnets. If you have read my posts here at Life of Dad you know that my daughters love butterflies. This is just another case in point. Plus, my girls love when we paint so this craft was something we could easily agree on.

So without further ado, let’s make these butterfly magnets. IMG_7491

Materials Needed:

Paint

Paint brushes

Wooden butterfly pieces

Magnets

Paper towels/wet wipes

Water to clean the brushes

Glue (for more information to where you can get one online, visit the Glue Guns Direct web page)

IMG_7501Directions:

Start out by taking glue and stick the magnet material on the wooden butterfly pieces. Some kits already have magnets on them so if you get those you are already ahead of the game. Craft supply stores like Michaels will have these magnets.

After the magnet is secured you can start to paint. I set down an old sheet on the working surface since we are using paint and water. Have your kid’s imagination and creativity run wild. We found that using epoxy resin for tumblers brings more fun designs. Let them paint the butterflies and make sure you do your own as well. I find that my kids love when I am doing the same thing that they are doing. If butterflies are not your thing, just use other wooden designs you can pick up at your local craft store.

Let the paint dry on the butterflies. Once they are dry you can stick them on the fridge or give them to grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles. I find that when you and your kids make something like a magnet that can be used in everyday life, these crafts tend to “live” a bit longer than other crafts we have made in the past. Hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of Art and Crafts.
