Art and Craftspic This week for our Art and Crafts segment here at Life of Dad we are moving from the family room to the kitchen. If you checked out the Life of Dad Show this week you heard Ryan Hamilton and I chat with Eluka Moore and Larry Puzniak from Bread and Butter Publishing. Eluka and Larry spoke about their book called “End of the Rainbow Fruit Salad.” If you haven’t listened to this week’s episode click here.

Ryan was kind enough to buy the book for me and my family. (Thanks Ryan!) As soon as we opened the book up, my girls wanted to make a fruit salad. The book is a great way for your kids to take part in the food preparation for a meal. My daughters and I had fun making our own version of the End of the Rainbow Fruit Salad.

We counted out each fruit just like the kids in the book do, which is a fun way to teach your kids how to count. We tried to get all the colors of the rainbow to make a vibrant salad that is similar to what is seen in the book. This wasn’t just a one-time craft. We have been making fruit salads since we got the book. I hope you enjoy this book with your kids as much as my family and I have appreciated this book.

Cutting Board

Knife

Bowls

Fruit (try to get different colored fruit)

Spoons

Directions:

For safety measures I suggest that the parent should be the one using the knife when cutting the fruit. Have your children pick out the fruit that they want in there salad. Once you wash all the fruit you selected take one variety of fruit and add one piece of it to the bowl. Take another fruit and cut two pieces of it and place it into the salad.

Repeat this step until you used up all the different kinds of fruit. As you add each variety of fruit make sure you count with your children. Also point out the different colors of the fruit for your kids to learn color recognition. After you have used up all the fruit stir up all the ingredients and serve into bowls. Finally you and your kids get to enjoy the fruits of your labor!
