Art and CraftspicThis week may belong to the sharks on the Discovery Channel, but I am putting the spotlight on another fascinating creature from the sea for this week’s Art and Crafts segment.

For this installment I am going to show you how to make jellyfish. After a visit to the aquarium my daughters kept talking about jellyfish. They loved the way that they moved and looked in the tanks.

So naturally for a few weeks everything was centered on jellyfish. My oldest asked if we could make our own. I agreed and I started looking for materials. At that time I had a stack of unused coffee filters in our pantry. Now that we have Keurig the filters were just collecting dust.

I thought now more than ever is a good time to put them to use. We got all the materials and went to work.

Materials Needed:

Scissors

Coffee filters

String

Streamers

Markers or Crayons

Glue or Tape

Directions:

First fold the coffee filter in half. Take your streamers and glue or tape them to the flat side of the coffee filter. These streamers will act like tentacles for the jellyfish. After you are done with that seal up the coffee filter by gluing one side of the filter to the other side.

Let the glue dry and then you can start to decorate the jellyfish with crayons or markers. Once your child is satisfied with the way they look add a string to the top of the jellyfish so you can hang them on the ceiling in your child’s room.

After you put up all the jellyfish get a fan and point it up to the ceiling. The fan will make the jellyfish look like they are swimming.
