Art and Craftspic This week for our Art and Crafts segment here at Life of Dad my daughters and I decided to make up some of our own New Year’s Resolutions. It may sound funny to have children make up resolutions, but it is an entertaining way to show your kids how to set and achieve goals.

My oldest, who is five, is going to try and read her chapter books she got for Christmas all by herself. My youngest, who is three, will try to stop sucking her thumb.

Some resolution ideas for toddlers could be cleaning up their toys after they are done playing with them. Another one could be to not tease the family pets. There have been times when our kids would annoy our cat and I am guessing other parents have had the same issue with the family pet.

For kids a bit older some of their resolutions could be to try to find a sport or an activity, like playing tag, or riding their bike at least a few times a week. In the area of bullying a resolution could be to be nice to other kids.

For teenagers you could have them try to help out in my community to help those in need. Or when faced with a difficult decision, talk about their choices with their parents. A big one would be to agree not to use a cellphone or text message while driving and to always use a seat belt.

Materials Needed:

White paper

Pencil or Pen

Crayons

Directions:

The tough part of this craft is having your kids decide what their resolutions will be for this year. Talk with them about things they feel that they can achieve this year. After that is done just take a piece of paper and let your children decorate their own resolution sheet.

Have them write down their resolutions and goals for 2014. Once completed put the sheet in an area that is visible to them every day. This will help reinforce their efforts to accomplish their goal.

Happy New Year everyone!
