Art and Craftspic This week for our Art and Crafts segment here at Life of Dad we are making homemade paper dolls. In my house the girls love Disney Princesses. It seems that each week they have a new favorite. So now they can make a new paper doll each week, which costs less than buying ones at the store.

Speaking of saving money, here is how we came up with the idea. One day the ones that we bought from the store got ruined because my daughters played with them in the bath. Somehow they were able to sneak the dolls into the tub. The next stop for those waterlogged princesses was the trash.

My daughters were upset, but I did tell them that paper dolls are not made for the bath. The next day the girls and I came up with the idea to make our own paper dolls. They had a blast making their own designs. Here is a list of materials that you will need to make them with your kids.

Materials Needed:

Scissors

Pencil

Construction Paper

Markers

Crayons

Glitter

Stickers

Glue or Tape

paper2

Directions:

Decide what dolls you want to make and get out the construction paper. In this case the girls wanted to make Ariel. So we got out the colors the girls wanted to use. I started to draw an outline on the paper for the girls to cut out. The main three characters we made were Flounder, Ariel, and Sebastian.

My oldest was able to do the cutting and my youngest started to color and glue the background scene. We made a water scene by gluing a few pieces of blue construction paper, or “water pieces” as my youngest called it, together. We added stickers, the dolls, and glitter to the water scene. We did not tape or glue Ariel, Flounder, or Sebastian to the background so that they could play with those characters.

They seemed to take more care of these dolls over the ones we got at the store. They didn’t sneak these dolls into the bath. They may not be perfect, but my girls loved creating these and playing with them. I hope you enjoy making this craft as much as my daughters and I did.
