Over the past week, I’ve started experimenting with different tactics to calm down Barbara Anne when she gets cranky.

When everything else failed, I started doing squats with her in my arms.  It worked.  Barbara was able to relax as long as I was gaining leg strength.

I’ve been a semi-regular at the gym for years, but never really did a squat workout.  Afterwards I was in some pain.

Later that evening the baby was crying and my legs were burning.  I couldn’t do any more squats, so I turned to the simple bicep curl.  Three sets of twelve, and Barbara was almost asleep.  And I was getting a workout.

The next morning at 4:30AM, Babs was ready for the gym.  I was seated on the couch, so I did a simple shoulder press over my head.  She had just eaten, so I did these really slowly.  Let me tell you, lifting 8-9 lbs at a slow pace, can really start to hurt.  This coming from an aspiring bodybuilder in college (He wrote this paragraph).

That night, I was lying in bed with the baby, trying to get her to doze off.  I didn’t have the energy to get up and do squats, curls, or shoulder presses, so it was the simple bench press right from the bed.  I did 25 presses, and the baby was peaceful.  As soon as I stopped, she started to cry.

Uh oh.  I may be leading myself down a dangerous road here.

If she gets used to the exercises, this may be the only way that I can get her to rest.

On the positive side, it can be tough to get a workout in when you have a newborn, and this fits right into my schedule.   I am on my way to becoming the strongest Californian since the Gold Rush.

Does anybody have a phone number for BALCO?
