There are times in life where the stars align just right and comedy gold is produced. One of those moments happened to me recently. It all began when I was preparing dinner for my family. My daughters were in the other room playing. I was hustling to get dinner on the table.

From time to time while I am cooking meals my daughters will take a break huhfrom playing and check in on me. They would ask the typical kid stuff like, “Is dinner ready yet?” or “Do I have to eat what mommy and you are eating?”

This time a very different and peculiar question was asked by my oldest daughter, Lily. I had my back to her as she entered the room. I felt like she wanted to ask me one of the usual stand by questions. As she entered the kitchen she started with the normal sounding, “Daaaaaaaaaaaaad.”

Then she paused.

It was as if all of sudden something distracted her. After a few moments of silence I stopped cutting up some potatoes and looked back at her. I saw a mystified look on her face.

As soon as I said, “What’s up sweetie?” She immediately uttered the words, “Daddy, are you peeing?” She still had a confused expression on her face as I am guessing anyone would if they thought someone was peeing in the kitchen sink.

At first I was dumbfounded on why she would ask me that question while I was in the kitchen.

Then it hit me.

She heard the steady stream of water hitting the refrigerator’s drip pan. We have a water dispenser and ice maker in our fridge. So from time to time it drains out some water onto said drip pan. The funny thing is that it does actually sound like someone taking a whiz.

As soon as I realized what she heard and what she thought I was doing I started laughing hysterically. The perplexed look on her face was still there. To prove to her that her dad wasn’t going insane I had to calm myself down and explain where the dripping water sound was coming from.

After I told her, she then joined in a laugh with me. I reassured her that people should only pee in a toilet and not in the kitchen sink. It was just one of those funny Life of Dad moments where all the stars lined up to create a very funny and memorably story.
