DSC00149 My oldest daughter recently had a birthday. With that special day comes the joy of finding a few gifts for her. My wife and I were looking for some unique gifts to give to her. We wanted to get a few things that would allow us to play together as a family. We love playing board games. So with that notion we searched a few toy stores for a game that we think she would love to play.

When we saw the Disney Princess Pop-Up Magic Castle Game from Hasbro, we knew that this was the one. This castle game brings the magic of Disney to our house. As soon as you open up the box a castle bursts out. Instead of just having a one dimensional game board you know have a game that is in 3-D. The game is simple enough for my youngest, who is three years old, to play and challenging enough to have my six year old wanting to play again and again.

The game comes with four iconic Disney Princesses. You get to play as either Aurora, Snow White, Belle or Ariel. Once you select your princess you use the spinner to move her throughout the game board. Along the way you can get a chance to move your player extra spaces if you land on the enchanted gemstones. If you land on one of those markers you get to pick up a token. If that token goes along with your princess you get to move ahead six more spaces. For example if you are playing as Aurora and you pick up the three fairies token that goes along with the movie “Sleeping Beauty” you move your game piece six spaces.

Beware though as there are some hidden traps along the way. If you land on the picture of a villain such as Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” you have to move back three spaces. It is cute to see both my daughters cringe at just the idea of landing on the evil villain space.

Whoever gets to the castle first wins the game. If you are looking for an even greater challenge you can add the two other versions of the game. Once you do that it will allow you to make an even larger game board. Hasbro makes the Disney Princess Pop-Up Magic Tangled Game and Disney Princess Pop-Up Magic Cinderella’s Coach Game that can connect with the original board game. My youngest told me that she wants the Tangled game for her birthday this year. It is cute to see my youngest want to be like her big sis.DSC00156

Not only was my daughter pleased that she got this game for her birthday, but my wife and I are happy as well. This game allows us to have a family game night whenever we have the opportunity to do so. In an age of tablets and video games it is nice to switch up the pace. We sit down all together and play the game share a few laughs in the process. To me that is priceless.

Please note: I was sent this game to review, but my thoughts are my own.
