Father's Day in a lobster.

My entire life, Father’s Day has always been about my dad. What type of tie should we get him? He could always use a new pair of socks. This year, Father’s Day was about him and ME! What type of tie am I getting? I can always use a new pair of socks.

From the moment I woke up at my in-laws house in Chicago, this Father’s Day was special.

My baby girl was all smiles when she first opened her eyes, and she and I went downstairs to hang out around 6AM. We kicked. We laughed. We smiled. We ate.

Around 7:30AM, it was back upstairs, where Babs took a nap on my chest, with baby mama sleeping to our left. We all snoozed until 9AM. Either Babs or I drooled on the pillow (It wasn’t her).

At 9:30AM, I went jogging, and took in the fresh air, on this gorgeous day in Chicago. I thought about how I have been jogging since I was about 14, and now I have a kid who is closer to 14 than me.

We went to mass with the family at 11AM, and then brought Babs to the grave of her grandmother and namesake. It was emotional, and we have no doubt that Babs gained much of her strength over the past four months from this incredible woman.

Lunch was at a local joint, named “The Breakfast Club,” and we ran into Lucy’s sister Jean, and their family. Everybody was all smiles, and Baby Babs was a happy girl.

The rest of the day we just chilled. Babs, Lucy, and I would swing on the front porch, and chat with the family. Babs and I hung out in our very own lobster pool (See picture). Lucy then surprised me and put Babs in a full Mets uniform. Nothing can make a dad happier than seeing his baby in Mets gear! If that wasn’t enough, Babs’ gift to me was tickets to a Mets/Dodgers game in July! Baby knows how to make her daddy happy.

Like any Bansley holiday party, the house was packed with family by 3PM, and we talked, laughed, barbequed, and relaxed all day long.

I called it a night around 11PM. Babs had gone to sleep about three hours earlier. I was just lying in bed and watching my baby sleep for a while. I thought about the first moments of my baby’s life, and how well she is doing now. I looked forward to many more Father’s Days with my beautiful wife and baby.
