I used to have time to do things.

“Meet up for a lunch? Sure thing, you name the time!”

“What band is playing in our area? Well let’s see all of those shows!”

“Volunteer for a beach cleanup or a clothing drive? Absolutely. I’ll be the first there and last to leave.”

Now with kids, things are never quite as simple as they used to be. Logistically speaking, almost all of those things are complete nightmares to even think about. Suddenly lunches need to be packed, changes of clothes need to be procured, babysitters need to drop from the heavens and manage my kids for whatever I can afford to pay (currently two buttons and cheerful thumbs up on a job well done.)

For the most part, I’m ok with forgoing the things that were easy when I only had to look after myself. I still get out to enough shows to keep me mildly happy. Meetings with friends are less frequent, but more meaningful due to the time apart. All of those things I had taken advantage of without thought are just replaced with parenting and all of the trillions and trillions of tasks that are involved with it. One thing I’ve been bummed about, however, is that being a parent leaves me with little time, or finances to actually help others the way I would like to.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t ever a poster boy for volunteerism, altruism or any of the other good isms that other, more dedicated people, should be labeled with. From time to time though, I did my part to help out those in need. From things as simple as getting canned foods for the needy, and shoveling the driveways of elderly neighbors, to the more complicated in organizing and executing massive food, clothing and goods for victims of Hurricane Sandy, I was always trying to do my part. But recently, I’ve slacked.

Luckily, I found the most simple way to help out some of the less fortunate thanks to our friends at Carter’s. You see, my son grows out of his clothes about every 14-15 minutes so I’m constantly online at Carters.com , or running into a Carter’s store to ensure that he’s clothed throughout the day. He currently needs some new pajamas as his latest growth spurt has turned pants into capris and tightened his shirts enough to . Well this Tuesday, November 29th, I can do my normal pajama purchase online and for every set of PJ’s bought that day, Carter’s will donate a set of pajamas to children in need. Finally, I’m able to marry my busy parenting schedule and admitted lack of motivation to an incredibly simple and worthwhile charitable act! Heck, I’m even going to double my giving, by getting two pairs of pajamas for my son, making sure that two other pairs are given to some kids in need. Seriously, this couldn’t have been easier.

Heck yes I'm getting him a Velour Suit!

Seriously, just that easy and I've helped 2 kids out there.

Just like that I’ve helped 2 kids get some awesome PJs.

Carter’s is one of my favorite brands for my kids! So help them give back to the community on #givingtuesday. When you buy one pair of pjs in any Carter’s retail store or online, Carter’s donates a pair to the Pajama Program, up to 100,000 pairs. Give more sweet dreams to children in need and more jammies for every little one! #carterssweetdreams

This year, Carter’s is looking to surpass $2M is pajama giving. So get out to a store or buy from home. Get gifts for those you love, cousins you tolerate or for the kids of co workers you’re harboring secret disdain for. Get them knowing that when you do, you’re helping out some kids who truly need it.
