These are scary times, whether there is an actual uptick in hate, crime, stranger danger and drug use or whether it’s simply that the 24-hour news cycle is doing a bang up job convincing us that the world has never been more frightening. So we asked the dads and moms of our Facebook community, what would you change about the world to make it better for your kids. The response was strong, throught-provoking and encouraging — we want change and some of us are working on it. Here’s the best of what you told us about how the world needs to change for our kids.

Tony Bradshaw: More opportunities for them to talk to people who do the jobs they seem interested in.My oldest son is really into the idea of becoming a paleontologist-but because hes only 12 many of the experts i approach wont make time to talk to a kid.I think if more professionals in different fields were more open to sharing with the next generation, maybe kids would be more open to express interests and be more dedicated.

Michael Cupit: All I want is for my kids to grow up playing outside and use their imagination to keep themselves occupied like I did and not with their bloody phones or play stations.

Brit Gafford: I would change all the hate, It breaks my heart to see my children so loving and caring (and many other sweet children) and know that there is so much hate and anger in the world. I wish the smiles and giggles of my babies could affect others hearts like it has mine.

Angee Perry: If I could change one thing, I’d make the world more understanding – or more willing to understand – the various challenges he and others like him face.

Nate Hineline: That people would love one another. Good to one another. Forgive. If someone makes a mistake, assume that they have something going on that excuses them rather than flip them off.

Eric Ramsey: Abolish the credit system, make it so they don’t have to worry about three little numbers that determine your social status.

Yoshi Bradley: Acceptance. Just because we don’t look the same. Walk the same talk the same… Does not mean we don’t all bleed Red.

LeRoy Alaways: That “reality” entertainment in all forms would vanish.

Crystal Shontel: Racism, better schools and services for special needs. Sorry that’s my one, all equally important.

Erin B. Dougherty: No cancer. For everyone, but especially not children.

Nicholas Klapperich: I would strip the world of egos. How the whole world would be better from one change.
