lebronand kids While I was enjoying the NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, courtesy of Crown Royal, I had the great fortune to talk with Miami Heat’s dynamic duo, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. It happened Saturday morning right before they hit the court to practice for the All-Star game the following day. This was the time that the media was allowed to speak with the Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars.

I first spoke with Dwyane and was able to ask a few questions. After that I moved over to where LeBron was sitting to chat with him for a few minutes. Both of them were very cool with me. From their answers it looks like they take a lot of pride in being a dad.

Dwyane Wade

Art Eddy: Dwyane, what advice did you give the younger guys about playing in the All-Star game? wadw

Dwyane Wade: Just to cherish these moments and enjoy them. Some of these guys up here will be All-Stars for many, many years. You never know who is going to be here one year and then not here the next year. So just enjoy the moment man. When it is all said and done you look back at this experience and think about how cool it was.

AE: I love the Dove Men+Care commercials with you and your sons. What are some of the main values you try to instill in them?

DW: Respect. Responsibilities. Things like that. You want your kids to have fun. You want them to have their personalities and be who they are, but you also want them to be respectful. You also want to teach them responsibility and things of that nature.

Dwayne-Wade-sonsAE: Are they going to be home watching the game?

DW: They are here. They were in the locker room messing around with everybody. I like to bring my kids. My kids love basketball. My kids have visions of playing in the NBA one day. So I like to bring them around and let them see what it is like to be around All-Stars. A lot of these guys are their favorite players.

AE: You are their favorite player right?

DW: No I don’t have to be theirs. No, not at all. I like to bring them around so that they can get a feel for it. They can see that and say I want that. They can work hard to do it and get here.

LeBron James

Art Eddy: LeBron what are some of the main morals and values you look to teach and instill in your kids?

LeBron James: There are so many things. I think respect is one. You give respect. As you give respect you want to have respect as well. Just trying to give those guys the blueprint on how to become young men and how to be well respected. I think that is the number one thing.

Make sure when you go out in public you represent our last name with the upmost respect and people will give you respect.LBJ

AE: Are they going to be here watching the game?

LJ: No they won’t be here. My kids will be playing some basketball. They have some AAU tournaments that they will be playing in. I would rather them continue to get better then to sit here and watch me. They are going to see me for a long time. I want them to have fun with what they are doing as well.
