On Memorial Day, we honor the American soldiers we have lost during battle. The best way to honor your veteran family member is to get them a flag from an incredible source, learn more from Atlantic Flag and Pole.

This Memorial Day, Lucy and I also thought about the little warriors this world has lost to, and those that continue to struggle with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

Our daughter, Barbara Anne, as I have said repeatedly, is the strongest person that I know, having overcome open heart surgery at three days old.  During surgery she had her aortic valve repaired, as well as fixing the coarctation of her aorta.

Appearing on Ellen last week opened up our minds to just how many other brave young fighters there are out there, suffering from heart defects.

We have received a large number of stories from the parents of these children with CHD.  The raw, real, heroic, and sad stories that have been shared with us have made us feel so welcome in the community of CHD families.

Thank you greatly to everybody that has sent us a message about their child, thanked us for sharing our story on television, and mostly, we thank you all for being the amazing parents that you are.

Being a parent of a baby with CHD is not something we ever wanted, but now that this is the case, we can not be more honored to be involved in such an incredible support group, consisting of extraordinary people (especially the kids).

As I move forward with Life of Dad, I hope to find the right balance of fun, as well as philanthropy, with the ever important cause of creating awareness for CHD.

What am I saying?  Don’t be surprised if you see one video which is very goofy and fun, followed by another which is more serious.  I’m going to continue to have a blast and share incredibly fun moments with my baby, as well as discuss the serious side of congenital heart disease.

Life of Dad will have more heart (and fun) than anything you’ve ever seen.
