The-fall

I try not to binge watch shows. I like letting them draw out a bit, because I don’t want them to end. When I started watching The Fall, however, all bets were off. Not only did I NEED to know what was going to happen, I was so constantly on edge that I sort of wanted it to end. It’s rare that a show can get me that worked up.

The Fall follows two main characters, Stella Gibson, a police detective summoned to Belfast to assist with a murder investigation and Paul Spector, an average dad and family man…. who happens to stalk and kill women to satisfy a dark fetish. Following both characters as one plans his next murders and tries to evade detection and the other systematically dismantles the veil he has around himself, you are immersed in both worlds. The show is terrifying, not only for the stalking and the murders, but even more so because of just how normal Paul Spector is when he’s going about his day. At times I almost found myself hoping he doesn’t get caught, because he can be so charming and affable.

Gillian Anderson is brilliant in the show as the driven detective, portraying an air of supreme confidence and ownership of every action she takes. As much as I wanted the show to reach a conclusion, I was also sad that it did because few shows drew me in quite so intensely. Don’t miss this BBC production while it’s on Netflix. It’s wonderful.
