The sooner you know the better. So listen up moms and dads and I am going to share a story that will make you believe that your kids are spies. Your children may seem harmless and innocent, but that is what they want you to think. With Valentine’s Day coming up this article is mostly for the dads out there. If you are looking to get something for your wife here is a tip, do not take your kids shopping with you.

For me this is tough since I am a stay at home dad and when I go shopping my kids are with me. Last year for Valentine’s Day I was looking to get some earrings to match my wife’s necklace that she got from her grandmother. I went to different jewelry stores looking for the perfect match.  After going store to store, I finally found a match at jewellers bondi. I was psyched that I was able to get something for my wife that she would love and I was looking forward to surprise her. I remember the associate at the store was talking to my girls especially my oldest about this being a gift for her mommy. At that point I thought it was cute and went on with the rest of the day.

I told my girls that we will make something for mommy for Valentine’s Day and that we will surprise her with it on that special day. We were about four days away from February 14th and I thought I had everything planned out. Right before it was nap time we finished up making a huge card and I told them that we will give mommy the card in four days. They both nodded and were smiling with the fact they made something special for mommy.

As I got my kids up from their nap I took them downstairs to start on dinner. My wife comes home and my oldest was yelling to me, “Mommy is home!” I went to the door and opened it up so the girls can wave to her and greet her at the door. I start walking back to the kitchen to finish dinner and I hear the door open up and the girls say, “Hi mommy!” My wife asked them how their day was and my oldest immediately said “Mommy we got you earrings today!”

My wife said “What is that? You got me what?” I went into the living room where everyone was and my oldest said again “We bought you earrings to match your necklace!” So the surprise was let out of the bag and my wife smiled at me and I smiled back and said “Happy Valentine’s Day!” So you see your kids are spies and they do their covert operations right in front of you. So that night the girls and I gave my wife her gifts early and I knew from then on that I had to do the shopping when I was alone.
