INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Miami Horror

Even though they’ve been a band for a solid 6 years now, it’s only been over the last year or so that I’ve really started to take note of Miami Horror’s music. I’m sort of bummed that I didn’t pay them more attention earlier, as their output is filled with catchy hooks, joyful funk and pop-synth that would make Depeche Mode and OMD salivate.

Hailing from Melbourne Australia, Miami Horror consists of Benjamin Plant, Josh Moriarty, Aaron Shanahan, and Daniel Whitechurch. Their electro-indie sounds are a marvelous blend of dance-all-night-disco-meets-dreamy-laid back-new wave of 1987. They took a surprising number of years to release their sophomore album (5), but had apparently spent the time well, producing a tighter, more refined album. Where most bands who take that time off seem to lose a bit of luster, they really spent the time polishing the good of their debut and trimming some of the fat. While they really take off relying on the synth side of their sounds, the lyricism and guitar driven songs are a nicely surprising change when delving into the full albums. Check out some of their standouts below.
