Continuing a 30 year tradition of developing a passion for reading in our children, LeVar Burton’s all new presentation of ‘The Night Before Christmas’ on Reading Rainbow’s YouTube Channel encourages families to share stories together during this holiday season. LeVar was kind enough earlier this to chat with me about Reading Rainbow and fatherhood. Read the interview here!

LeVar Burton is widely recognized for his lifelong advocacy of children’s literacy and known for his stewardship of the beloved Reading Rainbow children’s Television show that aired for 26 years on PBS. Recently, LeVar and his business partner Mark Wolfe have reimagined Reading Rainbow as a mobile “Netflix like” reading service that has 75,000 books being read each week by a whole new generation of children.

‘The Night Before Christmas’ storybook reading featured on YouTube is based on a book published by Holiday House and selected from one of the hundreds of stories featured in the Reading Rainbow app.

Says Burton, “This time of year offers an exceptional opportunity to curl up in front of the fireplace or on the couch with your children and read stories together. The best way I know to encourage reading in young kids is by reading to them. I hope my video reading of ‘The Night Before Christmas’ brings joy to your children and perhaps some fond memories for you of the 30 years we spent together on PBS.”

This is a blog from a stay at home dad’s perspective. I am looking to share funny stories, possible interviews, and just sharing my life to those who want to listen and read. You will read about my experiences as a stay at home dad and how I think stay at home dads are perceived, stereotypes for stay at home dads and moms, and the double standards that in the world of being the caretaker for children. Here is a bit about me. My wife and I have two girls ages three and one. After my job in radio was over, we decided that I stay home with the girls. It is a decision that I am happy that we have made. There is nothing in the world that can compare to watching your children grow and discover the world. I am a fan of the Star Wars films, football (9ers fan), baseball (Red Sox fan), Air Jordans, comedy, photoshop, and comic books. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, experiences, and the fun times you have with your kids. Nice to meet you! - Dad at Work
