IMG_7510 When the song “I’m not ready to be a princess,” was first sung I remember seeing my daughters smile from ear to ear when we sat down to watch the “Sofia the First” movie. I do find myself singing that song from time to time, which is odd for a grown man to sing. I know.

What first appealed to me about Sofia as a Disney princess was that they were around my daughter’s age. Sofia wasn’t looking to get married or fall in love. She just wanted to have fun. This was something that I think my daughters could relate to in their own lives.

For those who don’t know Sofia’s story here is a little background. When Sofia become a princess of Enchancia, she had to learn how to fit in to a life of royalty. She has to learn how to be a princess, hence that is where the catchy little ditty I find myself singing comes into play. She received a magical amulet from the King, which gives Sofia the power to speak with animals. As she learns to just be herself, she finds others accepting her for who she really is.

When the “Sofia the First” toy line came out I knew that my daughters would want to have them. When it came time for a birthday I knew anything that dealt with Sofia the First would be a home run in my house.

The talking Sofia doll comes with Clover the Rabbit, Mia the Bluebird and Robin the Robin. She can talk to the animals by pressing her amulet. All you need to do is bring one of the sculpted animal figures close to Sofia’s amulet. When her amulet glows, Sofia and an animal will “talk” with one another. My daughters were laughing over and over with this feature. They loved the fact that this doll was similar to the girl that they saw in the film.

What is cool about the interaction between Sofia and her animal friends is that they can speak over 30 phrases! Sofia is dressed in her signature purple gown, which matches her purple amulet. When the amulet lights up it looks magnificent. Sofia also comes with a shiny tiara.

Sofia the First Talking Sofia Doll and Animal Friends Play Set does require 3 AAA batteries, which are included and stands about 10″ tall. The suggest retail price is $34.99.

Please Note: I was sent this doll for a review, but my thoughts are my own.
