Stroller Holler

In part two of stroller power, we will delve into Stroller Status. What is this, you ask? In a city like Los Angeles, you have to own an impressive stroller to stand out. Do you own an upper, middle, or lower class stroller? In Los Angeles, you will find out quickly.

There are countless models of strollers, and in LA, there seems to be a stroller arms race. Much like cars, as soon as think you have a great stroller, you’ll see somebody else with the ’10 model, or a more pimped out version then yours. We have two strollers…a nice one, and then a simple travel friendly model. We’re buying a Bedazzler this weekend to really make the stroller hip.  Stroller “Cribs” here we come.

When we visited the big outdoor mall, the Grove, we had our simple stroller, and we were overmatched everywhere. I saw strollers with big wheels. I saw strollers with bling. I saw a three year old girl, pushing her doll in a doll stroller. Not kidding. Let me reiterate, just because the sight was ridiculous. There was a three year old girl walking with her parents. No, the girl was not in a stroller, but she was pushing one of her own. And inside that little stroller? Her 1lb., 3 oz. doll.

I saw multiple strollers that fit two babies. The one that made me laugh started out normally. I saw a mom pushing a baby, in what seemed to be an oversized stroller. This is very common. The strollers have storage that can fit everything from extra blankets to a microwave. When this mom and her baby got closer, I saw a hand moving at the back end of the stroller. But this wasn’t a baby’s hand. It was a boy’s hand. In the back/bottom part of the stroller, where there would normally be storage, was a 5-6 year old boy just kind of sitting, with toys, in an area that reminded me of the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. This stroller probably had almost as much square footage as my condo. If a stroller ever were to go into foreclosure, this was the one. Fannie Mae owns this stroller’s loan, for sure. Okay, I’m out of stroller jokes.

I have become friends with a company called 4moms. They have some groundbreaking products, and recently introduced a stroller called the Origami, that will blow you away. Some of the Origami’s features include power folding, LCD Dashboard, daytime running lights, cell phone charger, and four built in cup holders. You can also add power speakers, so you can use your ipod, all powered by the on board generator which charges itself while you are walking. No batteries needed. The technology is amazing. This stroller will be the top of the line, at a very reasonable price!

The innovations in the stroller market are really incredible. I’ve got to run, b/c I have to go talk to my wife about selling our car, so we can buy a few more strollers. I am a stroller snob, and our stroller status means everything to me.
