There are times when things happen that make your day, week, or can stick with you forever. Earlier this month an event took place that I will always cherish. One day my daughters and I were playing in the basement. My cell phone began to ring. My ringtone is “The Imperial March” from “The Empire Strikes Back.” (I am a geek…I know!)

After I got off the phone Lily asked me if we could play with “good lightsabers.” She said, “You know the ones that are in R2-D2. First of all there are so many reasons why the last line was great. As soon as I say sure, Lily runs in excitement to my life size R2-D2 that houses all five of my FX Replica lightsabers. (I would like to point out that there have been many failed attempts from my wife trying to find a new home for Artoo. Thankfully that little droid has nine lives in this house as he does in the films.)

Lily goes to the astromech droid and points to Luke’s lightsaber as the one she wants. Jordan being a bit smaller I give her the Yoda lightsaber.

They twirl around the basement singing “The Imperial March” and begin to fight each other. After a few moments pass, Lily tells me that I should be the bad guy and get the red lightsaber. I get Darth Vader’s lightsaber and begin to take both of the little padawans on. lightsaber 3

For me I will never force what I like on my children, but I will happily go along with them if they like something that I like. No issues there!

After a half an hour of “intense” lightsaber duels we call it quits. Lily asked if she could play with the lightsabers after dinner and I agreed.  Sadly it never happened. Still I love the fact that they had the same excitement for Star Wars as I did when I was their age. I guess that is a little of like father, like daughters right there.

I would also like to add that they have never seen any of the Star Wars films. Who knows what will happen when they sit down and watch them with me. I am still debating if I will ever let them watch Episodes I or II yet.
