infinity If you listen to the “Nerds, Geeks, Dads” podcast here at Life of Dad you will know that I love playing video games. From the days of playing football and Pac-man on the Atari 2600 with my dad to now video games are a way for me to relax and unwind. Since having kids my video game time has dwindled. I know most of you parent gamers can relate. For those noob parents who might cringe to hear that your time with a video game console will end don’t fret.

One day my daughters started asking me about video games. They saw the XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii consoles and wondered what those “machines” did. I told them that they were video game systems and you play games on them. They looked a bit interested so I showed them a kid friendly game. They at that time didn’t care to play. Then a few months later they asked about the games again. They wanted me to play a few games with them. We got a few kid friendly games and they were hooked.

Now our video game stock has been 1up’ed with Disney Infinity. You are taking my wheelhouse of comic book characters and mixing it in with my daughters favorite princesses like Elsa, Anna, and Rapunzel. That creates a recipe for success. My girls and I have found a game where we can combine our beloved characters and the fun of creating new worlds. There are many ways to enjoy Disney Infinity. You can play in a standard game mode where you have to complete missions. We had fun defeating Loki and saving New York City from the Frost Giants as the Avengers. My daughters wanted to play as Black Widow and I was Iron Man.

Then there is another mode called the toy box. The toy box is where you can make your own worlds, create games with your own rules, or build places that only exist because you and your kids made them. When you’re done, you can knock it all down and start again. What kid or adult gamer wouldn’t want that? I think my daughters love this mode the best. They place about 13 of Cinderella’s castles in the world that they created. They love flying in the different ships that we unlocked in the story mode.videogames

I love hearing, “Dad, look at the world I created.” They have such a great feeling of accomplishment. They are playing with their favorite Disney characters and learning more about others. My oldest now loves playing as Gamora. Lily thinks Gamora looks cool and is fun to play as in the toy box. My youngest, Jordan loves playing as Elsa, Rapunzel, and Black Widow.

As a father I love the fact that Disney Infinity is a fun and kid friendly game. Not only do my kids and I like to play, but we now got my wife hooked. Whether you are fan of Disney or Marvel or both you will definitely enjoy this game. You can play as Buzz Lightyear, or Captain Jack Sparrow, or Sully from “Monsters Inc.” Disney Infinity keeps on adding new characters. They just added Jasmine from “Aladdin.” They just unveiled an app for your iPhone or iPad that connects with your Disney account. Each character comes with a card that has a code on it. When you enter that code those characters are unlocked and are playable in the app for your iPhone of iPad.

disney-infinityI will warn you though, this game is a bit addicting. When my family is asleep I have been known to play a few missions on my own. I have even found a few coins in the game play mode along the way that let me add other characters into the mix. Disney Infinity is always changing which allows for exciting game play. With the different games I have played in the past to now Disney Infinity has to rank up as one of the best. Once you start playing I am guessing you will agree with me. Happy gaming!

Please note: Disney Interactive sent me a few Disney Infinity Characters, but my thoughts are my own.
