Jens Lekman (pronounced sort of like Yens Lake-Men), a native Swede seems to have a better grasp of the English language than I do. Jerk. His music tells stories that bring what could be boring, everyday situations and transforms them into tales that seem to find beauty in everything. His songs can be bare-faced and literal, like his tale about trying to find Kirsten Dunst and being too drunk to leave her a note, but mask the true meaning of a wish for a more fair and equitable society. Other songs about spending a night pretending to be the boyfriend of a gay friend in order to fool her dad, are about exactly that. It’s refreshing to hear songs that don’t sugarcoat heartbreak or soften emotional blows. When things suck, he sings that they suck. When things are good, you know because he tells you. His songs are endlessly amusing and you’ll be glad to introduce him to your library.

Notable Songs:
