I have been known to pull a few pranks in my time. I loved when people called me the class clown in school. Since becoming a parent some of that silliness has turned into an all business mode that my family has called me out on. Yet I still joke around with my wife and my daughters. I have never taught my daughters how to prank someone, but as we all know kids learn from watching what we do.

So it shouldn’t have come as a shock to me when my youngest daughter, Jordan pulled off an epic prank. I would have never expected this from a four year old. This past Saturday my kids and I were at the mall. While we were there I was texting my wife to see if she needed anything from the mall. I got the usual stop at Starbucks request.

We got back home to pick up my wife to go to a family gathering. We went inside to drop off our stuff we got from the mall. We made sure we had everything we needed for the get together. We told the girls to put on their sneakers and wait by the door.

We were all set to leave except my wife was missing something. She couldn’t find her phone. I tried to call her phone, but it the ringer was silenced. I asked her to retrace her steps. She said the last time she had it was when she was texting me earlier that morning.

We went searching the whole house for her phone. I went back into a few rooms because I thought that the phone might miraculously appear in a spot that I just looked for it five minutes ago. All the while my daughters are seeing my wife and I frantically look all around the house for the phone. At times they would repeat what we were saying. For example, “Where did you remember last seeing it?” or “Are you sure you checked the bedroom?”

After about 15 minutes of running around the house Jordan speaks up. “I think I might know where it is!”

In my head I am like yeah right. If my wife and I couldn’t find it how will a four year old find it? So as I am rechecking my bedroom Jordan walks into her room across the hall. I saw her go near her bed. She pushes back the comforter and grabs the phone. She yells out, “I found it!”

She then immediately went into a Joker style laugh. I followed her lead. I started to crack up. My wife wasn’t as amused as I was, but we all had a chuckle over it. Jordan kept quiet and didn’t say anything for about 15 minutes. She let us look like chickens with our heads cut off searching for a cell phone. She hid and played a fantastic prank on us. Well done Jordan. You made dad proud.

After a few high fives from me to Jordan we all got into the car. In my head I was thinking about how I need to be on alert for this new little jokester that I had a hand in creating. I thought about the scene from the film “Batman” where the Joker, played by Jack Nicholson, was at the desk saying, “Wait till they get a load of me!” I wonder what Jordan has next for us in the way of pranks. Only time will tell.
