A young man might think he’s got it all sorted; life, work, happiness, love, but then he becomes a dad and he realizes that there are so many more lessons left to learn. We recently asked the dads of our Facebook community to tell us what fatherhood has taught them. The answers were tremendous (as they always are — our Facebook moms and dads are the best), here are 13 dads sharing what fatherhood taught them.

George Dryburgh: [To] not worry about insignificant things and life’s politics and focus on what really matters, my children.

Matt King: That treating my wife and their mom with the utmost respect will teach these girls that that’s how they need to be treated.

Ben Hubbard: Fatherhood has taught me that taking a dump is a team sport

Edward Cenly Perez: Being a kid at heart again.

Daniel Gogarty: Taught me to grow up I was a bit immature until I met my wife and had our first child turned my life round for the better.

[editor’s note: those last two might seem on opposite ends of the spectrum but I can guarantee you that they are two sides to the same coin, and both very important.]

Shane Burrow: Open up, and admit I have feelings.

Michael Broeders: Fatherhood taught me to be more emotional. And thank god it happend i feel a lot better about certain things.

Nick Cantu: To want to change the world for my children.

Jeff B: [To] never turn down a chance to play.

Rich Hatchetman: It’s definitely taught me to appreciate my parents more.

Nicolae Niga: I have teenagers so I learned not to take it personally.

Dustin Vanhoose: If you can’t hear your kids they’re probably doing something they shouldn’t be!

Simon Lear-Easdown: How to do pretty much everything in the house one handed.

That’s what fatherhood has taught a baker’s dozen of our Life of Dad dads, what has fatherhood taught you? Share your story with us on Facebook!
