My awesome 5 day old son is named after me. In my family, Thomas goes back at least five generations. We all have different middle names though, so my namesake is not a junior or a 3rd, etc.
The plan is for our friends and family to call him Tommy, which they do already. I love it.
My wife and I were talking the other day, trying to figure out what to use as his nickname around the house. With Babs, we always call her “baby.” My dad always called me “pal.”
We started naturally calling him “buddy” or “bud,” which we like but we are open to suggestions. Bud was my grandfather’s nickname, so that could work well. Bud is also the name of a highly respected alderman in the St. Louis area. And a beer.
I will also call Baby Tommy “my man” or “dude” every now and then, as I’m still trying to work it out.
