kids-clothesNo, I am not talking about a new show on TLC. I am talking about the struggle my wife and I have when we get new clothes for our daughters. Most of these fashion issues are with our oldest daughter. Before Lily turned four years old we didn’t get any back talk on the clothes we bought her. In the morning we would dress her and be on our way. Dressing her took five minutes tops! Ah the good ol’ days.

Now fast forward a few years and this six year old has turned into a picky fashionista. Here are a few items that I will not purchase for her for a while even if she says that she likes it while we are out and about.

Number 1: Jeans

No way, no how. There could be a pair of jeans that has Elsa, Anna, Cinderella, and all of the other Disney princesses plastered all over, but she would still not put them on. She prefers shorts, jogging pants, or yoga pants.

Number 2: Sweaters

This one I feel I have to take part of the blame for. I don’t wear that many sweaters. Like me, she is a heater no matter the season. She is always wanting to wear short sleeve shirts even in the winter. She had received many beautiful sweaters for Christmas and past birthdays that just take up space in her closet. Some we have donated and others we hope (fingers crossed) her younger sister will wear in the future.

Number 3: Socks

Yes, she does wear socks….occasionally. Yet as soon as she gets home the socks come off right after she takes off her shoes. Not sure if this is a kid thing. I don’t remember running around barefoot, but my parents might. (I make a call to my dad. He is not sure if I ever did that.) That mystery still remains to be solved for another day.

Number 4: Winter Accessories

No need to go into further detail, just read the issues she has with sweaters and you get the point. This trait she totally gets from me. I think my neighbors still shake their heads when I am shoveling snow and dusting off the cars in a T-Shirt, shorts, and sneakers. Thankfully she wears her winter coat. Zipping it up is still a struggle. This works well with this Leather Messenger Bag for Men.

So there you have it. Those items are just a few things that I have learned never to waste money on when it comes to my oldest daughter’s wardrobe in this stage of her life. My wife and I need to watch out for Lily brainwashing her sister Jordan’s fashion sense. Just recently Jordan has been fighting us when we give her jeans to wear. Before we even get to her pants drawer Jordan says, “No jeans daddy.”football

I think the biggest thing that frustrates my wife and I when it comes to getting them dressed is when they say no to something that they picked out at the store. THEY PICKED IT OUT! After the fifth time I ask, “Are you really going to wear this Lil,” at a store I feel confident she will when she tells me yes. Yet just like Charlie Brown falling for Lucy’s football gag, I fall victim to the picky fashionista’s words.

I know some of you might think that this is a pretty insignificant thing to stress out about. I do see your point. Plus when my daughters get older things will get A LOT worse in regards to their fashion choice. What about you guys out there? Is there a piece of clothing that your child absolutely refuses to wear?
