A weekly look at father involvement in education through the Watch D.O.G.S. program of the National Center for Fathering.

Our guest this week is Shelia Chesser. Shelia is a consultant with the Franklin-Covey organization focusing on training educators in implementing “The Leader in Me” program. This program focuses on teaching students to implement the practices of the book “The Seven Habits of Happy Kids” by Sean Covey.

As a principal, Shelia implemented The Leader in Me Program at Pickett’s Mill Elementary School in Acworth, GA. This month, it was announced that after 6 years of hard work and dedication, Pickett’s Mill Elementary has achieved the high honor of being named a “Lighthouse Status” school. Shelia will tell us about the Leader in Me program and what it means to be a Lighthouse School.

Dads of Great Students is a national program currently operating in 46 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Mexico and even China. Nearly 4000 schools utilize the fathers and father figures within their own community to enhance the environment and safety of their schools.

Watch D.O.G.S. National Coordinator Keith Schumacher is the host of the show. Senior National Program Developer Chris Danenhauer co-hosts and they are regularly joined by Watch D.O.G.S. Executive Director Eric Snow.
