Welcome to the Life of Dad Collector of the Week! As a fellow geek and collector of all things Pop Culture I wanted to showcase some cool collections that dads share in the Life of Dad Geek Dads group on Facebook. It is a cool group of dads that talk about the latest movie, comic books, and video games that they are enjoying at the moment.

Whatcha Got?

Some of the dads in the group would start a thread about something they collect which got me thinking. We should have a page on our site that is dedicated to dads showing off their collections. It can be comic books, bottle caps, records, helmets or whatever they are into! We want to see what your passion is and why you started up that collection. I believe that in each collection lies a better story. We want to share your story!

My Geek Show co-host, Patrick Quinn and I will talk about on our Facebook live stream called The Geek Show.

Collecting Cards And Memories

Chris and his son

This week’s collection is from Chris Read. He and his son collect sports cards together. This is what Chris had to say.

I loved collecting sports cards as a kid. I can still remember my dad driving to 3 different card shops to find the one card I needed to complete my set of 1986 O-Pee-Chee hockey, because we didn’t have eBay back then, of course. That card was a John Vanbiesbrouck, by the way! Somewhere along the way though, I simply stopped collecting cards. I’m sure it was a combination of a few things, such as busier schedules and having to actually pay for the cards myself…

Now that I have kids of my own, I have been able to renew my love of collecting through them. My son loves sports cards and even started his own YouTube channel called Young Guns Breaks, where he opens packs of cards from all different genres. I get so much joy out of seeing his face when he hits something big and it takes me back to my days as a collector and that time I pulled an Eric Lindros rookie card.
