This morning I was a guest speaker in my son’s fifth grade class. The task at hand: Using Math in the Workplace. My duty was simple, give support to my son and his project partner Andrew with the presentation and answer any project related questions at the end.
Now anyone who knows me understands that I can filibuster with the best of them. (Especially if craft beer is involved!) But this was neither the time or the place for such grandstanding. So a bold, informative delivery by the boys was followed by a brief Q & A session went very well.
The boys’ teacher, Mrs. Kirkland did something very special today. She not only the opened the eyes of 20 students to new uses for math, but made me realize how much math I actually use at work. A+ to you Mrs. K!
So fellow Dads, your homework assignment today is to tell your kids how you used some math at work today and how important it is. Because after all,you are your child’s first teacher.
