To my fellow geeks what comic books are you reading? What story arcs are you digging the most right now? My dad got me into comic books and now I am passing on that tradition to my daughters. My kids and I will go to our local comic book store from time to time to check what new books are out that month.

My kids are fans of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Harley Quinn and Batgirl. I am a fan of Wolverine, Star Wars, Spider-Man, X-Men, Batman, The Flash and many more actually. If you are looking to get your kids into comic books or pick up books that you might be interested in this is the right place for you. I am going to talk about a few books each post that are good for parents and good for kids. Please let me know what books you are reading.

Also make sure you check out the Nerds, Geeks, Dads podcast where Zach Rosenberg and I talk about all things geek on one of the podcasts here at Life of Dad. There is also The Geek Show that I host with Patrick Quinn on the Life of Dad Facebook page. That show is usually every week on Thursdays at 1 pm EST.

Here are there comic books that I am highlighting that either my kids or I are enjoying this month.

First selection is DC Super Hero Girls Vol 4: Past Times At Super Hero High.

This graphic novel is written by Shea Fontana with art by Marcelo Di ChiaraYancey Labat, and Agnes Garbowska. The students of Super Hero High go on a one-of-a-kind field trip that will allow them to learn about the past, up close and personal! In fact, they will be in the past! After a time-machine mishap, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl and company find themselves in the Jurassic period! But more importantly, how will their time in the past affect their future? Find out in the latest title in the hit all-ages graphic novel series!

My daughters really enjoyed this book. They each took turns reading the book and then I read it after them. They sometimes tell me about the book before I get a chance to read it, but this time they didn’t tell me any spoilers. The book takes you back in time and the heroes find themselves up against dinosaurs. As the book progresses you see that Wonder Woman and crew need to make sure that they don’t mess up the future with their actions from the past. After we were done reading the book we discussed what we thought of it and my daughters both gave a thumbs up. This is a great read that the whole family can share.

Books for Dads only!

Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic — Mace Windu

Marvel has a new five-issue penned by Matt Owens and illustrated by Denys Cowan. Starring the fan-favorite Mace Windu, a Master on the Jedi Council who tangled with Jango Fett and Darth Sidious, it picks up after the start of the Clone Wars as the Jedi Order faces possibly its greatest challenge yet. You can get a first look at Jesus Saiz’s dynamic cover below, featuring Mace delivering some battle droids a Force push to remember.

For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy…but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic. As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi’s greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to the violence around them! The books so far in this series are great and I love the look into one of the Jedi Council’s interesting members.
