There aren’t a ton of TV dads we modern guys have been able to look up to in the pantheon of television. On the big screen, the pickins are not quote as slim but for so long, dads have been portrayed as dummies who fumble their way through parenthood. So we asked the dads of our Facebook community to tell us which TV and movie dads are their favorite.

Justin Delaney: Darth Vader. All he wanted was his son to join him in the family business.
Dominick Marshall: Homer Simpson. Even though he isn’t the brightest, you can always tell he loves his family.
Chris Seastrand: Frank Reagan from Bluebloods the Sunday dinners, and always knowing when to speak, when to hint at things, and when to just let things go. And never letting people take the easy way out so they learn something from what they’re going through. Very cool. And I think my mom will be on board with Tom Selleck too!
Stephen Snyder: The man who scored 4 touchdowns in a single game … for Polk high. Al Bundy!
Andrew West: President Whitmore from Independence Day. In the heart of crisis all that mattered was keeping his family safe…which saving the world was the best way to accomplish!
Heath Mauger: Alfred Pennyworth from Batman. He kept Bruce and the various Robins alive and thriving for decades.
Jack D Stout: Phil Dunphy on Modern Family. Best dad ever and probably the funniest too.
Per Franck: Sorry. But I grew up with him. I have to say Dr. Cliff Huxtable.
Niels van der Woning: Jim Belushi in According to Jim….. Always wrong but never too big to admit it (after a fight).
Chris Hindhaugh: Col. Potter – MASH – as a paternal figure his temperament is brilliant.
William Kueny: Red Foreman from That ‘70s Show, because everyone needs a foot in the ass every once in a while.
Nick Stevens: Malcolm in the Middle’s Hal. Had the world’s worst behaved kids and still managed to love his wife and love and provide for his kids. Hands down best dad ever.
Christopher Stevenson: Jack from This Is Us. Damn that guy is a superhero.
