Parents never want to live longer then their children. Yet in those sad times when a child passes away too early parents look for signs that remind them of their child. In a touching story from Canada that was reported by CTV Ottawa we see a dad, Rick Prashaw cheering on a runner who has Prashaw’s son heart.
The runner, who is John Dickhout had a heart attack a few years ago. This condition left him in a state where he couldn’t even walk up a flight of stairs. At that same time, Prashaw’s son, Adam passed away from complications from a seizure. Adam’s heart went to John who was on the list for a heart. When John received Adam’s heart he was able to live a normal life.
John wanted to show his appreciation for receiving Adam’s heart John wanted to run a race that is near where the Prashaw’s hometown.
Dickhout told CTV Ottawa, “I wanted to let my donor family know how much this gift meant to me and my family.”
After John finished the race Rick gave John a very big hug and expressed his appreciation for what John did.
For Rick watching and cheering John on it took him back to the days when he would watch his son play hockey. Prashaw told reporters, “It was just like watching my kid in a hockey game,” Prashaw said with a smile.”
Prashaw also spoke about Dickhout running in a race. Rick talks about Dickhout running in the race that is was “just living and choosing life, all because of Adam’s gift means the world to us.”
Rick was also asked about the decision to donate his son’s heart. He told reporters that it “was the easiest decision of the entire terrible weekend because we knew Adam’s wishes.
