I always try to keep some level of anonymity for my kids when I write about being a parent. So, how did my 3-week old son wind up in newspapers in India, China, Australia and Switzerland??
As one of the Co-Founders of Life of Dad, it’s always been a bit of a challenge for me to keep a separation of personal details and story from the public. I need constant reminders to not divulge personal information; but I neglect that mental levy and sometimes let things slip through that have to be retracted.
So when our son was born, my wife asked that I be sure that no birth announcement was made on our site or our social channels. We didn’t need the audience gawking at the new little guy. I complied. Buuuuut, a few weeks later, I started the ‘Cheerios Challenge’ with him. Suddenly the slow leak in the levy became a crack… then a torrent as he blew up across the globe! My little guy who couldn’t even hold his own head up, had gone viral and it was hilarious.
Well, this year the Cheerios Challenge is back, and it’s going to blow last year out of the water. This time around, we’ve upped the ante by collaborating with General Mills and Cheerios! Not only will participants be recognized on Life of Dad, but you could win a trip to The Mall of America for yourself and your family on Father’s Day weekend!!! With this added incentive we’re looking forward to seeing The Cheerios Challenge tackled by even more families than last year.
The idea is simple.
Get some Cheerios. When your child falls asleep, see how many you can stack on them without knocking the stack over.
The sweepstakes is live between the dates of 5/30 and 6/04, so get your cameras ready for some action! Winners will be announced 6/10 and it might be you!
Misplaced Cheerios can and will topple your stack, but the ‘laughter shakes’ will be your most common downfall. Snap the picture of your best effort and share it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using BOTH hashtags #StackingSweepstakes and #CheeriosChallenge (remember to add the S this time!) Three lucky people will be chosen for the weekend getaway with their family at The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota and will forever have the bragging rights of being a Cheerios Challenge Champion.
