Being half a world away from your parents can have some upsides to it. Less visits solely to teach them how to “work the Netflixes” and you don’t have to be available for cat-sitting duties! But obviously the benefits of being close to your parents generally supersedes anything negative.
Ji Lee, a designer living in NY lives thousands of miles from him parents in Brazil. He wanted to find a way to not only keep his retired father active, but to also connect with his grandkids. He found an amazing way for his parents (Koreans living in Brazil) to build a lasting bridge with his newborn son (living in New York) and their other grandkids (living in Korea.) Art and Instagram were the solution.
Ji’s father used to draw when Ji was young and he convinced his decidedly tech deficient father to create drawings for his grandkids and post them to the Instagram page “Drawings for my Grandchildren.” Now with a vision and focus, his initially reluctant dad pumps out a drawing a day and uses money from sales to visit his grandkids around the globe.
