Angel Olsen

Why’d it take me as long as it did to really dive into Angel Olsen for Playlist Elevated? I’m just glad that I knew enough of her songs to explore the remainder of her work when I did. Now you get to have some of her best filtered for you here. The trouble is finding standouts to settle on. I guess for this I’ll try to put together some of the more disparate sounds as she swivels from stripped down Wanda Jackson-esque sounds to brooding garage rock and pure indie from song to song. The influences and personal direction of her music keeps what could have been somewhat ordinary, anything but. It’s rare that we find someone who can blend genres so seamlessly while also maintaining exceptional lyricism throughout. The ADD side of me is happy for this as it keeps me listening exclusively to her longer than other bands could’ve done with theirs. Her live shows have been elusive, which seems to be my curse. From what I’ve read though, her shows are exceptional in almost every aspect.
