INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.
Cyndi Lauper
You’re obviously wondering where the new band to discover is, as nobody needs to “Discover” Cyndi Lauper since about 1982. The obvious answer to this is the byline to this series which clearly allows for me to get into things you already know but should rediscover, including 80’s Pop mega stars. Raddest among them in my opinion, being Cyndi Lauper. Woman of unique voice, look, style and range, Cyndi Lauper should be more than just a throwback in your playlists. I’ve considered Time After Time and True Colors (both Lauper’s version and Justin Timberlake/ Anna Kendrick’s excellent cover) two of my favorite songs ever (unsurprisingly, almost every Punk Rock, Oi and Hardcore Metal friend of mine almost unanimously agree with this.) Ever since her debut in 1983, she has evolved her sound from the Pop she became famous for, to ballads, country, Cajun swamp pop, show tunes (Tony Award winner for Kinky Boots) blues and electronica. Known best for Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Lauper is WAY more than her handful of hits and should be rediscovered by everyone.
