INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Leningrad

Any Russian band that manages to be banned from playing in Moscow for being TOO Raucous, should really be on everyone’s radar. Leningrad is just that band. Made up of an alternating lineup of between 10 and 14 members the group mixes punk with elements of Klezmer, Gypsy dance and jazz horns all blended into some insane dance pop. Think Gogol Bordello, but with way more vodka. It’s a cacophony of sound that by all literature I’ve seen on them, carries lyrics packed with drunken debauchery. I wish I were able to understand any of it other than the occasional curse words I learned from my lifeguard partner Yvgeny, and my friend Elena. They really managed to instill the spirit of their rich heritage into my consciousness. Leningrad isn’t just a fun band to listen to, but they also have one of the most bonkers and ambitious music videos I’ve ever seen in the song Kolshik. Watch it. Just not with your kids.
