INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.
Happy Mondays
Happy Mondays were one of those bands who were just a blip on the US’s early 90’s new-wave-dance scene. Birthday parties for your goth cousin probably featured Step On and possibly 24 Hour Party People, but otherwise they didn’t register quite as broadly as their counterparts, Stone Roses or Primal Scream. A band more focused on the rave/ drug culture probably didn’t stand as much of a chance to expand here, even in the times of ridiculous JNCO jeans and eyebrow hugging visors. Little things this band did made them standouts from the others though. Early adoption of slide guitars and hip-hop set them apart, but having a band member there solely to dance (Bez) really solidified their place as a live experience that I’m bummed to have missed.
