Son Donates Kidney To His Father….

When I became a father one of the things that I realized was how much my parents did for me over the years. Parents make sacrifices on a daily basis not looking for anything in return. We hear it all the time when a parent says that they never understood the idea of unconditional love until they became a father.

Son looks to help out his father…

In a story from an ABC affiliate from San Antonio, Texas we get to see a very touching story between a father and son. Paul Castellano and Paul Anthony Castellano’s story shows the bond they have for each other.

Paul Anthony wanted to be there for his dad when he needed a kidney transplant. “I wasn’t going to change my mind,” he said. “I knew when I was at a fireworks stand. I knew that God told me it was time.”

Paul the son’s determination could have been by those around him. His dad’s nurse, Louisa Gonzales reflects on her interaction with both father and son. Louisa says, “Paul Anthony was very adamant about giving the gift of life to his dad,” Gonzales said. “He didn’t quit. He didn’t stop. He said, ‘I want to be considered even if my dad’s not ready.’”

Thankfully Paul Anthony and his father ended up being a direct match.

Paul Sr shocked to hear the news…

“I didn’t know he was the one that was going to give up his kidney,” Paul Castellano said. “I thought I was waiting for someone else’s kidney. It was really neat when I heard, and I really love him for that. There (are) about 96,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant, and only 20,000 are performed a year,” he said. “So, you can see the need far outweighs what’s available.”

Paul Castellano counts his blessings with being able to receive a transplant, especially after all the hours he spent in dialysis. “I know how it feels to go every day, to sit in the chair, get poked, get all that blood off of you and stay there for four hours,” he said. “I tell whoever is out there to please donate.”

We love hearing stories like this and applaud Paul Anthony for donating a kidney to his dad!
