I have been enjoying the Star Wars comic book line from Marvel. There are new adventures that our favorite Rebels go on between each of the films we know and love. One of the series takes a deeper look into Darth Vader.
In that series we are introduced to a variety of new characters. Three of them are really interesting. Two of them are droids in 0-0-0 and BT-1. The other is Dr. Aphra. She is a human female archaeologist who was recruited by Darth Vader after the Battle of Yavin. Aphra, along with her two assassin droid companions, 0-0-0 and BT-1, fulfilled several missions for Darth Vader before falling out of his favor. Well it seems like every one does that.
Now we get to see her in action figure form. She recently won Hasbro’s Star Wars Fan Figure Vote on StarWars.com, meaning that she’ll be making the jump to toy form and joining the new 3.75-inch Star Wars Vintage Collection. Doctor Aphra, introduced in 2016 in Marvel’s Darth Vader series, rocketed quickly to fan-favorite status. She was dangerous, funny, and kept the company of two psychotic droids, but wasn’t completely without a heart; it was hard not to root for her, even when battling our heroes. Today, Doctor Aphra stars in her own ongoing series.
I know my daughters and I are happy to see more women action figures in the Star Wars universe. Expect to hear more about Dr. Aphra on the Geek Show that Patrick Quinn and I host on the Life of Dad Facebook page every Thursday around 1 pm EST.
