Joey Jao talks with The Life of Dad After Show host, Art Eddy his family’s story about when his daughter was born she was rushed to the NICU after she was having seizures. Joey shares with Art why started running marathons and the help he and his family received from Ronald McDonald House Charities.
About Joey Jao
The Jao family has an interesting story as they experienced a relatively typical pregnancy at 38 weeks, they were expecting the same of her birth. Within minutes of their daughter Justine being born, her oxygen levels dipped repeatedly and she was rushed to the NICU. Ten hours after being born the nurses in the NICU observed that she was experiencing seizure-like motions. Because of this new symptom, the doctors order test after test: EEG, MRI, CT scan, Spinal tap. None of them come back with any explanation as to what was happening. Because or RHMC, the Jao family was able to stay with Justine for the 47 days she was in the NICU.
Today, children being cared for at 89 percent of the top children’s hospitals around the world have access to at least one Ronald McDonald House Charities core program. In 2017, Ronald McDonald House Charities provided more than 2.45 million overnight stays, which saved families over $880 million in lodging and meals.
From Joey, “We cannot thank the Ronald McDonald House enough for keeping our family together while we were trying to figure out how we can help Justine. We are just one story with a happy ending where we broughtour child home. Unfortunately there are other families who did not get our same ending. The Ronald McDonald House has given those families precious minutes and hours to stay with their child. This organization continues to share its compassion with families just like mine to make sure we are there for our children.”
