At what age can kids pick out their own clothes?

On The Show:

Art Eddy and Jon Finkel talk about at what age kids can start picking out their clothes.  A lot of parents weighed in on the conversation by sharing their thoughts during the show.

Here is what a few of them said.

Allen Plowman we make it easier for my 5 year old son by putting his clothes in groups. his clothes go in big ziplock bags, each one has a shirt, pants, underwear, socks. so he can grab the bag he wants and he has a matching outfit.

Jamie Geers I mostly let me kids pick(unless we’re running late or certain events were going to) but I have final say if it’s appropriate for the weather. Other than that I let them have fun and express themselves.

Ran Kilpatrick My son has to be in the mood for the superhero that is on the shirt!!

Rebekah Shipp I’ve already started with “pick between these 2 options” with my one year old. As she grows, she’ll get more and more control over her wardrobe.

Dustin Dirks As a dad with autism, certain fabrics and styles make me lose it, so I HAD TO pick out my own clothes from an early age.
