After my first child was born and underwent open-heart surgery at birth, my wife and I savored the ordinary tasks that many parents take for granted. Sleepless nights, bathtime… if the worst thing to happen that week was a diaper rash, it was a good week because all we had to use was a little Baby Magic Diaper Rash Cream. Really, if our baby needed anything that didn’t require a prescription and we could just run to Walgreens or order on Amazon, it was a win! I learned quickly how to change a diaper and wear spit up/snot/urine on a t-shirt proudly.

Now before I became a dad, I had this vision of raising a son to be the next all-American baseball player and he’d one day play for the Mets, his old man’s favorite team. Then I actually became a dad… I have two amazing girls and a son who has stated on numerous occasions that he loves every sport BUT baseball. So yeah, fatherhood has not played out exactly how I envisioned… but in many ways, it’s better! Don’t get me wrong, it’s complete chaos and I often play referee to the dueling siblings but there are these magical moments. Like when I come home from work and the mere sight of me sends my kids running into my arms. Or when I dress up as Mr. Met and have the entire house belly laughing.

And there’s nothing quite like teaching your kid to ride a bike and see them root for sports teams based on who daddy is rooting for… Go Mets! Go Pats! But the most meaningful moments are hidden in the everyday ordinary moments, cuddling with your kid and out of nowhere they say, “I love you daddy.” Now that’s magic. That is what being a dad means to me and why it’s the most important role in my life. And to support all the great dads out there, trusted baby care brand, Baby Magic, is launching a new Dads Are Magic Too campaign that is putting a spotlight on inspiring dads across the world. The brand is making a commitment to include all types of dads – single,stay-at-home dads, dads working alongside moms – in their imagery, online and in ads, moving forward.

In addition to including dads in creative, the brand is also making a monetary donation to the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI), supporting its commitment to teaching more men the importance of fatherhood and uplifting those who may not have had a strong father figure themselves. Baby Magic also encourages fans everywhere to celebrate wonderful dads by sharing their story on the Baby Magic Facebook page. Inspired dads can also volunteer to lead a fathering class in their own community and can find opportunities at BabyMagic.com or Fatherhood.org. Baby Magic even created a new video that shows how dads are changing the fatherhood game…proving that Dads Are Magic Too!

Since starting Life of Dad 7 years ago, I have encountered some of the most inspiring fathers. Dads doing ordinary tasks under extraordinary circumstances. Dads overcoming heartbreaking situations while still giving 100% heart for the sake of their kids. Dads sacrificing their own needs so that their child is provided and cared for… Dads are magic!

What it comes down to is that dads are now stepping up the dad game… they are grocery shopping, cooking meals, doing school drop off and pick up. Dads are changing diapers, even the ones with diaper rash. Dads are learning to braid hair for their girls and busting out moisturizing cream when baby’s skin is too dry… What I’m trying to say is, Dads Are Magic Too! And the more active role dads play, the family dynamic is improved significantly. It’s a win win for all involved. So be sure to check out the National Fatherhood Initiative. Their mission is to proactively engage father’s in their children’s lives. For more info on this meaningful cause, check out Baby Magic and Fatherhood.org
