We think maybe we need to get married again after seeing this friggin amazing cake created by Maddie Carlos of Something Sweet by Maddie Lu. in Minnesota. I mean, this is the cake that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs! This piece of junk might not look like much, but it’s got it where it counts. Ok, enough with the Star Wars quotes. We spoke with the super talented woman who behind this Millennium Falcon masterpiece and found out a little bit about it, and her disappointing taste in movie selections.
Was the cake commissioned by someone? If so, what was the occasion?
This was a wedding cake for a couple that had a total star wars themed event.
Clearly they are the awesomest people ever and we’re sad that our invitation got lost in the mail. How long did it take you to make it?
Between me and one of my decorators, we had 21 man hours into it.
So it started a long time ago….. In a bakery far, far away…..
What’s the inside made of?
The inside is a vanilla cake with fresh raspberries baked in, a thin layer of raspberry jam, and vanilla buttercream. A lot of people commented about how it was probably just all Rice Krispies like “the Cake Boss uses” but there was in fact no rice krispies in the making of this cake. We take pride in making our masterpieces as edible and delicious as possible!

How did you get such incredible detail on the hull?
All details were made out of fondant, royal icing, or buttercream frosting. A lot of people have negative things to say about fondant and its flavor. To clarify, there is just a thin layer of marshmallow flavored fondant on top of the cake and buttercream to create the details.
Are you a Star Wars fan yourself, and if so, who is your favorite character in the franchise?
I am not a Star Wars fan and have actually not seen more than a minute of any of the movies. Surprising!
