Kids often get a bad rap when it comes to eating and trying new foods but many little people do actually enjoy and eat unusual and strange foods. Here’s a roundup of some of the foods the children of our Life of Dad community enjoy with their dads.

What's an unexpected food your kid likes?

Robert Foster: No one in my family drinks milk but me. Wife hates it, except in cereal. Even then, she just leaves it in the bowl. Our 6-year-old is allergic to dairy. And our infant son gets milk from his mommy. So I was shocked when I asked my 3-year-old what he wanted to drink with his PB&J and he said milk! I’m glad to finally have someone to help me finish off a gallon when it’s close to the sell-by date!

Andrew Arlidge: My son loves to cook and to help me cook. We made asparagus one day and my daughter helped as well. When it came time to eat both of them where a little hesitant to try it. My son eventually tried it and loved it. My daughter didn’t want to so my son said he would eat it. I told my daughter that she should at least try it as she helped make it. My so said he would eat it for he but I said not until she tried it. So she tried it and they ended up getting into a fight over who would eat the rest of it!

Jay Cwiklinski: Chivettas chicken (I think this is mainly a Buffalo, NY thing). It tastes and smells great but I never thought my now 9 year old would like the chivettas sauce.

Robert Gallini: My 2 yr old daughter loves to eat sushi with me.

Mike Plain: My boy has always loved olives. When we go shopping he tried to swipe them from the deli counter and has managed on more than one occasion.

Daniel Wright: Haggis. She’s only 1/8 Scottish but loves it.

John R Phillips Jr: Onions soaked in balsamic vinegar. I’ll make a salad and he likes the onions from the bottom of the bowl. The kid is straight crazy although he’s definitely my mini me. He’ll eat scrapple, pork roll, deer meat, loves steak, pork, chicken, broccoli etc. He isn’t even 2 years old yet.

Chris Luebkert: Kalamata olives. I worked in restaurants for nearly 20 years, naturally our meals at home have some slightly unconventional ingredients. Of all the odd things my son has put down, the olives (and some cheeses) really stand out to me.

Jay Winstead: Pepperoncinni peppers. I love them and can eat them by the jar.

Steve Morrison: My 6 year old girl LOVES steamed clams, And has her entire life.

Sebastian Puentes: My daughter absolutely loves shrimp, and lettuce salad.

Lorne Campbell: Guacamole! (Wife hates it, and she tried to tell the kids they should too! Dad wins!!
