As a parent there are times you see your reflection in your children. As a stay at home dad my two daughters are with me constantly. I love having fun with them each and every day. Now more than ever they both start saying things like me or acting like me. Some are good and some are bad. One way I see this is when they do an impression of me. Every time they pretend to be me it makes me laugh. Once they see something that gets me to chuckle they latch on to it and at times they look to see who can make me laugh more.

Their first attempt to do an impression of me is when they are wearing my sneakers. The most frequent line I hear is “Hi, I’m daddy.” That alone is funny, but it gets even better. For example my youngest daughter, JJordanordan puts on my sneakers and says the line and stomps around the house. Just imagine a little girl walking around saying things is low manly voice. She will look at me and say the line then moves on to my cat and say the line and so on. What gets me the most is Lily sees this and wants her chance to pretend to be me.

So she grabs my phone says “Hi, I’m daddy.” She will also pretend to have a conversation with my wife and ask about her day. Even better is she sees my podcast equipment and starts up her own podcast. She even will quote another Life of Dad writer Ryan Hamilton when she raps one of his lines during his first appearance on the Life of Dad show.

All around I find it adorable to see how they pick up the way I talk and act and have fun with pretending to be me. Kids seem to pick up everything you say and do. My daughters are always looking at my wife and I as they observe all of our actions throughout the day. Since their impressions of me started I have become more aware of my actions around them. This actually benefits me as well since I can focus on being a good role model for them and lead by example.

Do any of your children do impressions of you?
