We here at Life of Dad have many outstanding fathers that contribute to this great site. Here dads can connect and share their stories. When Life of Dad founder Tom Riles invited me to write for the website I was excited. I now was able to tell people about my experience as a father in a place where it was embraced.

As time went on Tom and I started up the Life of Dad podcast. Since we began the podcast we have had Tony Danza, John Elway, Tom Glavine, and many other famous dads give their thoughts on how fatherhood has changed them.

In the past few years I have been very fortunate to chat with many dads in the sports world or entertainment industry. I have loved listening to their stories. Recently I had the great pleasure to speak with New Orleans Saints cornerback Jabari Greer about fatherhood and his great foundation, the Greer Campaign.gc

When you check out the foundation’s website you see the words “Uniting Fathers…..Uniting Families.” On the surface those words are powerful on their own, but Jabari and the fine folks at the Greer Campaign take it miles further. They have many great programs to help not only fathers, but entire families to help build a strong foundation on love and communication.

Take a moment to read the Greer Campaign’s mission statement:

It is our mission to provide education to fathers to assist them in their rights and responsibility to their children. Striving to support men and their families in becoming well-rounded in every aspect of life, we host workshops and outings with the entire family to help fathers and children reach their full potential.

Through our online forums, we connect fathers from all walks of life and answer questions on a wide variety of issues related to fatherhood and the unique challenges they face. By providing mentorship, educational tools, and guidance in various forms to best suit each family unit, we are committed to the development of our communities.

In our conversation Jabari opened up about his role as a father and what he and his wife teach their children. At one point Jabari told me that he has five important words that he says to his kids.

“We have the five most important words that you can possibly say out of all the words in the world. The five most important words I tell them are, ‘how may I help you?’ Those are the five most important words that you can say to your children. They need to learn that through service they are actually touching and changing this world.”

Jabari leads by example at home and through his foundation. My conversation with Jabari will stay with me forever. He is not only striving to make his family better, but his community with his great works of service. At the Greer Campaign they have campaigns for fathers, kids, and communities.

It doesn’t matter if you are a father, mother, adult, or child make sure you check out our recent podcast with Jabari and hopefully you will be moved just as I was to make positive changes to better yourself, your family, and your community. At some point in the future you might have the urge to ask a family member or a complete stranger the five most important words how may I help you.
