force commandI was thrilled when I got the opportunity to chat with San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson for the Life of Dad Show. We talked about fatherhood and his time in the NBA. As a sneakerhead I also got to ask him about which was his favorite pair of kicks he had during his playing days. He said it was the Nike Air Command Force Pumps. He had a bunch of cool kicks that he played in so I wanted to showcase some of them in this week’s edition of Just for Kicks.

Nike Air Command Force

The Air Command Force first saw the hardwood in 1990. This time was marked by signature silhouettes with features as big, bold, and striking as the icons who laced them on the court. I remember that I rocked these in early 90’s when I was playing hoops for my school team. My coach told me that as a guard I picked the wrong sneakers. I looked back at him and said that I needed to get these because these were David Robinson’s shoes. Sound logic from an 8th grader right? My coach didn’t think so.

The Air Max 2 Strong was the follow-up to 1994’s Air Max Strong. The shoe featured a high cut inner bootie and “Anti-Inversion” lateral and medial velcro straps at the heel for the ultimate locked-down support. Robinson wore these kicks during the 1995 season and was the main guy that Nike had to represent this sneaker on the court.

Nike Air Unlimited

David was rocking these kicks when he scored 71-points in one game. This was one of his career performances. The game took place on April 24, 1994. He and the Spurs took on the Los Angeles Clippers.nike-air-unlimited-1994

David and I spoke about that game in my interview with him. On that game he said, “Well it is funny because there are times when you feel like you just can’t miss. You are in that zone. That game just happened to be one of those times. It was the last game of the season. I think Shaq and myself were in a battle for the scoring title. I think I was ahead by four points. So he needed to score at least four more points than me that day. Getting 71 was just an incredible opportunity. It is something that I will never forget.”

Nike Air Force 180 High

The Nike Air Force 180 Men’s Shoe is a patriotic tribute to the 1992 USA men’s basketball team, featuring classic court style and striking color contrast in support of world-class American athletes. The iconic Nike Air Force 180 gets its name from the 180-volume exposed Nike Air unit Nike-Air-Force-180-High-White-Turquoise-Black-1in the heel. At its birth in the 1990s, the Air Force 180 provided more Air than ever before, adding maximum cushioning for large yet agile hoops stars. The adjustable midfoot strap adds unique style and additional stability on the court, while perforations help keep feet cool and comfortable.
